Picture day, shot like media day

Team photos, individual portraits, media days, senior portraits and styled shoots in uniform, for youth, high school and college athletes on the North Shore and around Greater Boston. Every frame is set up on purpose by Michael Rotiroti, a National Emmy and duPont-Columbia award-winning cinematographer and photographer.

Photo day for the whole roster

Team photos, individual portraits and media days are booked by a coach, a team parent, a league or an athletic department, for every athlete on the roster.

Team photos

For every team, from the youngest rec squad to a college roster. The players and the coaches, in uniform, in one frame.

  • The full roster and coaching staff together
  • Rows set so every face reads, from the back row to the kids kneeling up front
  • PLACEHOLDER: team photo price, or what a league's free team photos include

How it runs. Each team comes through at its own time on photo day. PLACEHOLDER: how long each team's slot runs

Individual portraits

For every player on the roster. One athlete, one portrait, in their own uniform with their own number.

  • One athlete at a time, posed for a portrait
  • PLACEHOLDER: how many poses each athlete gets
  • PLACEHOLDER: products and prices (prints, memory mates, trader cards, digital files)

How it runs. Shot on the team's photo day, one player stepping out of line at a time. PLACEHOLDER: before or after the team photo

Media days

For leagues, high school athletic departments and college programs. The preseason shoot the pros do, for your whole roster.

  • A portrait of every athlete on the roster
  • The poses everybody wants: arms crossed, ball on the hip, the stare into the lens
  • PLACEHOLDER: what media day delivers (roster headshots, portraits for graphics, a team photo) and the price

How it runs. Michael sets up at your place and the roster comes through one athlete at a time. PLACEHOLDER: setup (backdrop, lights, space needed) and how many athletes an hour

Plan a media day

Portraits for one athlete

Booked for one kid, by their family or by the athlete. In uniform, and planned around them.

Senior portraits

For seniors who want their last season on the wall. The portrait in their own jersey, for the senior banner, the grad party table and the frame at home.

How it runs. Pick a date and a place, like their home field or court, and Michael meets you there.

PLACEHOLDER: what a senior portrait session includes (length, locations, number of edited portraits), turnaround and price

Styled shoots

For the athlete who wants something planned: a recruiting profile, a signing day portrait, the one that gets framed in the hallway. Portraits in uniform, set up ahead of time instead of caught between plays.

How it runs. Tell Michael what you're picturing. The location and the look get picked with you, and he comes back with a quote. Every styled shoot is quoted, because no two kids want the same thing.

PLACEHOLDER: what a styled shoot includes (length, locations, number of edited portraits) and a starting price, if you want one public

Want them in action instead? An athlete spotlight follows one athlete through a whole game, from $50.

How a team photo day runs

The whole day, start to finish, so coaches and families know what's coming.

  1. Weeks out

The league or coach books the day

Pick the date and the place with Michael through the contact page. PLACEHOLDER: how far ahead to book, and where photo days happen (your field, a gym, an indoor backdrop)

  2. Before the day

    Families get the schedule

Every team gets its time, and families find out what to wear and how to order. PLACEHOLDER: how families get the schedule and order info (league email, flyer, link), and whether they order before or after photo day

  3. Check-in

    Teams arrive dressed and ready

Full uniform on, cleats laced, hair done, before the team's time comes up. PLACEHOLDER: how early to arrive, and how long each team's slot runs

  4. Team photo

    The whole roster, coaches in

Michael sets the rows so every face reads, from the back row to the kids kneeling up front. PLACEHOLDER: confirm the order, team photo first or individuals first

  5. Individuals

    One athlete at a time

Each player steps out for their own portrait while the rest of the team waits by the fence. PLACEHOLDER: how many poses per athlete, and whether siblings or captains get a group shot

  6. After

    Photos get to families

PLACEHOLDER: how families see and order photo day pictures (online gallery, order form, team packets), and how long it takes

Picture day, without the chaos

You've done the other kind of picture day. Here's what makes this one easy.

What to wear

The full game uniform, clean and complete, the way they'd take the field. Socks pulled up, jersey on straight. PLACEHOLDER: home or away jersey, and whether hats, eye black and jewelry come off

What to bring

A brush, hair ties and a water bottle. PLACEHOLDER: whether athletes bring their gear (stick, ball, glove) for the portrait, and anything parents need to bring to order

When to get there

A few minutes before the team's time, so nobody is still lacing cleats when the rows go up. PLACEHOLDER: how early to arrive

How ordering works

PLACEHOLDER: how and when parents order, what they can buy (prints, banners, memory mates, digital files), prices, and pickup or delivery

Nothing goes online without you

If your athlete is 12 or under, no photo of them goes on Rival's social media or in an ad without a written OK from a parent, the team or the coach. Read the photo policy

Who's behind the camera

Rival Imaging is Michael Rotiroti, a National Emmy and duPont-Columbia award-winning cinematographer and photographer whose work has run on HBO, MTV, NESN and NBC Sports Boston. Questions go straight to him through the contact page.

The portrait that ends up on the banner

Game photos catch you mid play. A portrait is you on purpose: the stare, the jersey, the number you've worn since you were nine.

Senior portrait

Your last season in your colors, on the field where you played it. Your number, front and center.

The banner

Senior banners go up on the fence before the season. Make yours the one people stop and point at.

The profile pic

Your recruiting profile, your Instagram, the group chat. A clean portrait in uniform beats a blurry screenshot from the stands.

Media day

Arms crossed, ball on the hip, staring down the lens. The pose from every pro media day, with your number on it.

Show this page to your coach. For the senior portrait, show it to whoever's paying.

From photo day

PLACEHOLDER: no posed photos yet. Swap each block for a real photo using the lightbox link markup, with a written OK from a parent, the team or the coach for any athlete 12 or under

Leagues can take their share in team photos

Rival covers league games at no cost to the league. Families buy only the photos they want, and the league picks its share: a cut of every sale, or free team photos.

If your board would rather not handle the money, the team photos are the share. Individual photo days are available either way.

PLACEHOLDER: what a league's free team photos include (one photo per team, a print per player, digital files)

Photo day questions

The ones parents and coaches ask first. Anything else, ask Michael.

What should my athlete wear?

Their full game uniform, clean and complete, the way they'd take the field. For senior portraits and styled shoots, talk through the look with Michael ahead of time.

PLACEHOLDER: home or away jersey on photo day, and the rules on hats, eye black, jewelry and gear

What happens if it rains?

If the sky looks bad, check with your coach or league before you drive over.

PLACEHOLDER: rain plan for outdoor photo days (indoor backup, rain date, who makes the call and when families hear)

How many poses does each athlete get?

The team photo is the whole roster together. Individual portraits are one athlete at a time.

PLACEHOLDER: number of poses per athlete on photo day, and for senior portraits and styled shoots

What if my kid blinks, or misses photo day?

If your athlete can't make it, let Michael know through the contact page as soon as you can.

PLACEHOLDER: retake policy (is a blink reshot on the spot, is there a makeup day, what happens if an athlete is absent)

How do we order photo day pictures?

PLACEHOLDER: ordering (before or after the day, online or order form, deadline), products (prints, banners, memory mates, digital files), sizes, prices, and pickup or delivery

Looking for game photos instead? Those are in the post game gallery: $2.99 a photo during the game, $5 after, up for 48 hours. Find my photos

Can siblings get a photo together?

Mention it to Michael before photo day, so he knows to plan for it.

PLACEHOLDER: sibling photos (is there a sibling pose on photo day, does it cost extra, how to request it)

Is a senior portrait the same as a styled shoot?

Both are portraits of one athlete in uniform, planned ahead. Styled shoots are open to any athlete and quoted shoot by shoot.

PLACEHOLDER: how a senior portrait session differs from a styled shoot (length, locations, number of portraits, price)

Will my kid's photos end up online?

Not without an OK. If your athlete is 12 or under, no photo of them goes on Rival's social media or in an ad without a written OK from a parent, the team or the coach. Read the photo policy

PLACEHOLDER: who receives media day and team photos (league, school, families) and what a school or league may post
